Product Council Update
  • The Executive Committee recommended that SIG groups and PC members watch the recordings of Sprint Reviews and report any questions and concerns to the PC. Most current review is Sprint 28-29 (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B7-0x1EqPZQKNTJHbkw4M2NRelU) - overview of Codex search begins at around 8:45, short update on Inventory starts at 21:15 (ability to copy instances)
  • Developers meeting to be held in Madrid, Jan 22-24
  • Dracine reported:
    • A feedback channel was asked to be created to give members a chance to give responses to the sprints.
    • The Product Council discussed reviving the Privacy SIG.
    • There was a discussion of System Ops and Management SIG and the scope of their work.
    • There was a discussion about coordinating testing.
    • Dracine encouraged members to attend the FOLIO reception at the ALA Midwinter conference. You must register to attend.
    • The agenda for the meeting at Madrid will be made available, as well as a follow up report.
  • Ann-Marie asked about what the plans are for a systematized method of writing documentation. Michael Winkler answered that the intent is to have a coordinating group that will probably arise from the Product Council.
  • The idea of a Data Dictionary came up at Product Council. This will document what we can expect fields that come out of reporting will have. Patty emphasized the need for a coordinated language.

Forum facilitators update / linked data WG update / any other announcements
Upcoming forum: January 17th: What's the Buzz? Introduction to APIs in Libraries

Question from Forum Facilitatiors; Would Metadata Management SIG give an update in an upcoming FOLIO forum? The proposed dates for the forum would be in either early February or April.

  Inventory Alpha Update

 Charlotte:

  • Believes April would be a better month to present on the FOLIO forum.
  • Status of the Inventory App. An alpha version has been set up. Note there are only a little over 100 test records in the FOLIO testing db now. Charlotte demoed this.

    • There are now filters on the left hand navigation. Lynn asked if there has been a discussion about what those filters should be. Charlotte answered that right now the filters reflect what is in the Codex search, but there has not been a final discussion. That will be with the MM group. The EBSCO Knowledge base team and Index Data are working on the Codex search. Lynn suggested having this development team meet with the MM SIG to go over what we think should be searched. Anne-Marie mentioned a sub-group may be useful for this case. Lynn agreed. Charlotte emphasized that the technology is in place, which is an important first step, making them now ready to refine the options.
    • The Instance page is displaying, the technology is in place, so with that foundation, refinements can be explored.
    • Charlotte changed to a different database with 2,600,000 records. The filters work quickly on this large dataset. The developers have been focusing on efficiency.
    • There is an option to clone an Instance Record. Anne-Marie asked whether or not a clone record (a record native to FOLIO) can become a MARC record. Charlotte stated that is not in place. @Cult will be working on this issue.
    • There is an "Edit" mode for the Instance record.
    • In the MARC mapping working group they have decided to keep the Subject as a single string.
    • Laura asked why there are two Add Item buttons, and if there is a difference. Charlotte said it is a bug and the inactive Add Item button will be removed.
    • Item Record View:
      • Material Type is configurable.
    • Felix asked if there will be a call number generator added. Charlotte said that is in the develpment plans.

MM SIG Working Groups - Metadata Elements and MARC mapping

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kdYx63J0KoqR3-LUHuPAzERgj8WE0OQ08rzuCaJaHWs/edit#gid=952741439; need followup working meeting involving other SIG's to discuss Resource Type & Format data elements

There was a developer that participated in the two meetings of this working group. Lynn suggested that we need to address the issue of "Format" type and thought that after the Madrid meeting we could plan to have a working group that joins with the Resource Access group to discuss resource and format types. If anyone knows of someone who would be particularly good for this group, please let Lynn know. Charlotte suggested posting an online working document, as well as involving @Cult in this.

Anne-Marie wondered if there would be any authority control. @Cult has advanced authority control functionality, but how that will integrate with FOLIO is unknown at this point. Charlotte agreed to push for a discussion on this in Madrid. Following topic has been proposed: "Cataloguing by reference: Authority data control and Linked data - - discuss if authority control is a step on the path to linked data". Lynn commented that we need a holistic view of authority control.

Post-Alpha developmentAfter the Madrid meeting Lynn will encourage members of @Cult to attend our meetings regularly.
