Product Council Update

Discussed roadmap update that Harry will give next week at Folio forum.  Discussed WOLFCON and planning sessions. Registration should open in the next week or so. Resourcing non-MVPs - specifically direct record import from OCLC was specifically discussed. Members of Cornell and Chicago have made a proposal. Proposal: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tZ6FQ5UsWwEJLv0tyGx758Bxxd7fpvd0sP8LTQNfXWA/edit#heading=h.nvnwqdyd7wer  Laura mentioned that Index Data will be involved in discussions about this beginning next week. Ann-Marie noted that MARCCat and SRS are not talking to each other yet.

Slide deck

Continuation of last week's discussion

  • Emma's interpretation of "difficult but not impossible" : Group agreed on Emma's summary of what that means. (Slide 4)
  • Christie - If something is being withdrawn that is loaned, user should be able to checked book in, mark withdrawn. Batch - Should be able to change using batch process. Laura - If different statuses are known, then it would be OK. UMass - Yes, they want to be able to withdraw in batch. They do not want to deal with errors one by one.
  • Specific scenario: Book is returned but was never checked back in. Now it needs to be withdrawn.
  • Lisa F. expressed concern about what would happen to the patron's account if the record says that a book is overdue, but now the book is withdrawn.
  • Sara - Suggested a report follow the batch process to "flag" items that have been checked out but were batch withdrawn. Ann-Marie agreed that a report is a good idea.
  • Can a Withdrawn item change its status? - Group agreed, "yes", a withdrawn status should be changeable. 1) Change the status of item being checked in? (when withdrawn then returned) 2) Change in Inventory manually. "Undo" option 3) Batch update
  • Ann-Marie - Need same options with "Withdrawn" as are set up with "Missing"
  • List of statuses for Q4 - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QCniCrdOHgiR2RMh6tO7JPKjv9RfR0oiD1lCwaT261w/edit#gid=0 Column B - Is it currently implemented? Column E - if UXPROD is mentioned, then the status is planned for Q4.
  • Christie - off-site storage Item Status or Item State? What would be used?
  • Emma - how do planned Item Statuses map to current statuses for libraries? Laura wondered if some from MM SIG could join RA for a discussion. Emma will coordinate a subgroup that will work together on this.

ISBN searching

Need to confirm and/or correct some assumptions about searching and storage of ISBNS in Inventory. Please review these slides and comment – particularly on what our expectations are for what is indexed as an ISBN and whether the system does any calculations (e.g., adding a 10-digit ISBN when only a 13-digit one is present in the underlying source record).

If members would like to edit, comment, or add slides, please do. If members would like to talk about this next week, please let Laura know. Charlotte made notes from today's RA SIG meeting. The scope is only searching in Inventory.

Proposed UI Change

UIIN-802 - Getting issue details... STATUS

UIIN-803 - Getting issue details... STATUS

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Dd9Q0H66T-lnQR9H2ilvw3IIhqlN9isVlFVPTs5FE8k/edit

Described in UIIN-802 is a change Laura proposed to accommodate some pressing RA needs. This is envisioned as a temporary change in order to facilitate circulation workflows.

UIIN-803 describes some enhancements that will further improve the display for both RA and MM.

While this may not be ideal for some MM workflows, are there any compelling reasons we cannot make this compromise?

Charlotte noted that in Filipe's original design the user could select between Instance/Holdings/Item.  The current design Charlotte described as a thin thread, Laura posted a suggestion - to place Holdings/Items at the top of the screen. Example:

After this, a refinement would be introduced in which the items would be collapsed when retrieved.  Laura asked, "Do we think we can live with this?" Could there be a bit more info than just the title?  Charlotte - In BugFest environment, you can see additions of title/subtitle/statement of responsibility.

Ann-Marie - What is the order that the holdings will be shown? Charlotte - there is a feature for this, and a decision would need to be made on this for MVP. Should be alphabetic, is unpredictable at the moment.

Future meeting topics

Source of truth (SRS). Review the FOLIO metadata flow based on test of the newly implementation of edit freeze of records in Inventory when having only SRS and Inventory installed.

Inventory, MARCcat, Data Import Permissions interaction review

Search enhancements - possible also look at more general requirements for defining search, e.g. when to use: Phrase search, Truncating (left and/or right), Stemming, Nested search, Boolean search, etc. (TC and MM task)

Authority Data and Inventory Vision (small group work first)

Discovery – need to clarify sources of data for discovery vs. data needed for operations; this needs to be documented for the entire FOLIO community and direction should come from Product Council

Item record statuses and the apps that affect them

Music / Maps / Media cataloging review of data elements in Inventory

Texas A&M may have a music cataloger that can help.

Christie offered to load cartographic and music data from other libraries into their test FOLIO instance.

Jennifer (via chat): We should also look at video as well. Videos have other standard numbers EAN for instance and fields that people like to search and discovery them by
