Navigating back to browse list

Magda Zacharska

Browse - navigate to browse list.pptx

4 options:

  • Fix browser button navigation
  • Keyboard shortcut? (Ctl + Alt + R was suggested)
  • Search results displayed in a new tab or window
  • Return to browse button

Magda will send out a survey on the preferred method of fixing this problem, and post that survey in MM Slack. Results/feedback/decisions will be discussed at next week's meeting.

003 in QuickMARCAnn-Marie Breaux (Deactivated)

Discussion regarding 003- This is usually an institution-based code, and it would not be appropriate to have a FOLIO-generated code in this field. Right now, 003 can be added and edited but not deleted. This will be addressed. Once a system setting is added to FOLIO that allows an institution to add an 003, this field will be locked down. Likely a setting in Data Import, perhaps beneath the Protected Fields setting.

10:33:34 From  Laura (she/they)  to  Everyone:
    thank you, Heather!
10:38:57 From  Laura (she/they)  to  Everyone:
Jenn -- I'm willing to work with you
10:39:13 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
    😃
10:43:56 From  Ann-Marie Breaux  to  Everyone:
Did anyone solve today's NYT Crossword? Shout out to 5 Colleges!!  https://folio-project.slack.com/archives/C1EQ927QX/p1652370199087489
10:46:35 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
I am a big fan of keyboard shortcuts!
10:46:56 From  Jessica Janecki  to  Everyone:
I agree, especially the expand and contract accordions
10:47:07 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
    yes!!
10:47:10 From  Ryan Tamares (he/him)  to  Everyone:
I'm partial to a button to go back to a browse list view as well as a keyboard shortcut
10:47:15 From  Lynne Fors  to  Everyone:
I would prefer a keyboard shortcut and a return to browse button
10:49:24 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
    I do that, too, Laura.
10:49:46 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
A new tab icon that lets them choose to open in a new tab
10:49:53 From  Amanda Scott  to  Everyone:
Currently, can you right-click something in the list to have the option to open in a new tab or window?
10:51:27 From  Rita Albrecht  to  Everyone:
I would also prefer Opening a new tab. However, this technique is not used at any other point in FOLIO (as far as I can see) ...
10:51:52 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
I don't think click with no warning is accessible
10:54:59 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
If we have to choose, then I agree the keyboard shortcut is better choice.
10:55:15 From  Ryan Tamares (he/him)  to  Everyone:
    +1 Jacquie
10:55:57 From  Lynne Fors  to  Everyone:
Would the button be the most accessible?  In conjunction with a keyboard shortcut?
10:56:26 From  Heather MacFarlane  to  Everyone:
+1 Lynne, keyboard shortcut may not be obvious to users
10:57:04 From  Lynne Fors  to  Everyone:
I'm also thinking about screen reader users
10:57:49 From  Rita Albrecht  to  Everyone:
The return button seems to be most intuitive solution as many Systems, Websites use  a similar function.
11:01:42 From  Ryan Tamares (he/him)  to  Everyone:
+1 on Charlotte's suggestion for tab identification
11:01:45 From  Ann-Marie Breaux  to  Everyone:
Rita - in the Data Import app, when you want to look at the JSON data for imported records, a new tab opens when you click on the title in the log details
11:01:55 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
    +1 Charlotte!
11:01:57 From  Rita Albrecht  to  Everyone:
    Good idea, Charlott!
11:03:51 From  Charlotte Whitt  to  Everyone:
yes, somehow you get attached to your open tabs
11:04:19 From  Laura (she/they)  to  Everyone:
I always have multiple browser windows each with multiple tabs open... it's the computer equivalent of multiple piles of papers on my desk
11:04:53 From  Ann-Marie Breaux  to  Everyone:
I tend to open, and then make a mental note to come back and do whatever I planned in that tab. Then I get too many tabs open, get over-stimulated, and just close the whole browser - then forget what I was going to do
11:05:11 From  Laura (she/they)  to  Everyone:
nice to know I'm not the only one who does that
11:05:16 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
Yes, that sounds very familiar, Laura!  I also use multiple browsers (chorme, firefox) to separate topics.
11:05:31 From  Laura (she/they)  to  Everyone:
    +1 Jacquie!
11:05:35 From  Joshua Barton  to  Everyone:
Yes, always buried in tabs, but still want this option.
11:06:43 From  Ryan Tamares (he/him)  to  Everyone:
I've been using a Chromium-based browser that gives a lot of native tab control, so no add-ons/extensions necessary (tab stacking, horizontal tab scrolling) —fast and lean on memory: it's the Vivaldi browser
11:09:06 From  Rita Albrecht  to  Everyone:
browser based interface should be able to be used by clicking instead of using short cuts. Short cuts should only be an Addition for Special purposes.
11:14:10 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
the code would be for FOLIO not the institution?
11:14:33 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
That is my question, Jenn. I would think it should be for the institution and not the system.
11:16:21 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
It should be an institutional decision.
11:16:58 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
Thanks Christie and Jenn!  I agree that it should be an institutional decision to provide the data for the 003, and if the 003 is created.
11:17:30 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
I think that FOLIO should be creating the 003, but using the institutional code.
11:17:53 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
It would be great if it were a system setting.
11:18:16 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
Yes, that would be the way to go, I agree, Christie.
11:20:06 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
Did the 003 exist on every record in OLE or did it just get added on export?
11:20:18 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
Did you have to map it in or did it get added automatically?
11:20:43 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
In OLE the 003 was controlled by the system..
11:23:10 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
Maybe in the Instance HRID configuration screen?
11:23:26 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
Since it qualifies the 001 with the instance HRID?
11:23:45 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
but only if you have marc? what about no marc instances? do they need it?
11:24:48 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
Good question. That may be the circumstances in which we would want to assign the 003 at export when a FOLIO instance is being exported as MARC.
11:24:52 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
    yes
11:24:58 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
    I have a question …
11:25:00 From  Charlotte Whitt  to  Everyone:
    https://folio-snapshot.dev.folio.org/settings/inventory/hridHandling
11:26:01 From  Jenn Colt  to  Everyone:
we love a rabbit hole 🐇
11:26:26 From  Laura (she/they)  to  Everyone:
    🐇
11:27:17 From  Jacquie Samples -- Duke  to  Everyone:
I obviously also love the rabbit hole.  🏡
11:28:35 From  Amanda Scott  to  Everyone:
If the code assignment is tenant-wide, how would that work for institutions with multiple codes (for branch libraries, for example, or if multiple libraries share a tenant)?
11:29:31 From  Christie Thomas (she/her)  to  Everyone:
For us, we just use our main code since we have one system for all of our libraries.
11:30:29 From  Amanda Scott  to  Everyone:
    Thanks!
