Local Package Record notes 2018-06-05

Recording of meeting is uploaded to the MM-SIG > Recordings subfolder (file named: Local-Package WG 1_1920x1050.mp4)

Discussed loose definition of a package record, e.g., a hierarchical structure to group records. Instances may be in more than one package. Instances (and their respective holdings and items) can act independently of other instances in the same package. In this way, packages differ significantly from the hierarchical instance model for bound-withs / in-analytics.

Added/refined use cases in Notes on Packages in Inventory

Inventory packages may be the same as ERM packages for electronic resources. But there are also many use cases for print/tangible resources.

Important to consider for each case: would this data logically reside in ERM or in Inventory?

If ERM were expanded to include tangible resources, all aspects of resource management could live in that module, while data needed for resource discovery could live in Inventory. Otherwise, there will be some necessary overlap between these two apps. Also, if an institution chooses not to use ERM at all, Inventory should allow for basic management of both physical and electronic resources.

Before next meeting: flesh out use cases.

For next meeting:

Review use cases. Draft working definition of Package Record to share with FOLIO community, including a proposed name. Review/confirm data model.
