Background:
From Maccabee Levine in slack (4/24):
From this morning's CC meeting: CC is looking at a possible budget surplus next FY due to discontinuing the developer position (Mikhal) and expected reductions in AWS costs (details). There was discussion about asking the other councils for input on possible spending priorities, and CC would discuss again at their next meeting in 2w. From the minutes:
- Options for spending $150,000 - $200,000 in FY24?
- Pay for other needed positions in the organization?
- Buy out part/half time of individuals to perform needed functions?
Other wish list items from the project?

[~marcjohnson] you mentioned (from the notes) that Kitfox is largely propping up reference environments. This is not the case. Index Data DevOps continues providing the sole support for those envs as can be seen from all conversations on #hosted-reference-envs Slack channel. I am not sure where is this disconnect from but it might be a good idea to bring this topic up for discussion because ID DevOps said repeatedly that we cannot continue supporting those envs indefinitely due to internal projects. Can we please discuss what can be done to effectively shift support to Kitfox or sponsor additional resources to provide this support? This might one of the items for the budget surplus topic. Apologies, I didn't intend to give this impression, either I misspoke or what I said may have been lost in translation.
I did not intent to belittle the work Index Data does to maintain those environments. I only intended to raise awareness of similar concerns you have about the limited capacity Index Data has for this work going forward.
I completely agree that this topic deserves more attention. I vaguely recall it being discussed in the CC a while ago when folks were talking about support for the flower release reference environment.

Jakub Skoczen I've been back through the recording of the meeting.
Apologies once again for the confusion I caused.
I acknowledge that what I said about who maintains the reference environments was clumsy and may not reflect the reality, as I suggested the reference environments, jenkins etc was maintained by both Index Data and KitFox. I don't believe I said that the KitFox team did the vast majority of that work.
I've updated the meeting notes to better reflect what I think I said (it's probably a bit biased because I used worse language during the meeting e.g. sort of maintained in pieces by each party.
For folks interested, the relevant part of the conversation is between 09:30 and 15:45.

Thanks Marc!
